We're hiring: Lead Brewer

Rob started our brewery in 2004 and fermented the first batch at Swannay one cold February in 2006. Since then we've brewed over 2,200 batches and won well over 100 awards for our beers. Rob was brewing solo until around 2009 when son Lewis started helping out, initially driving the delivery van based out of Edinburgh, Lewis soon ended up 'back on the rock' more and more and started to learn the art of brewing. 

When Kev was taken on to help out with deliveries full-time Lewis could stay 'home' all the time and focus on brewing. Pesky cask washing got in the way of brewing too much so Butch was employed to help out scrubbing stainless - he came from a creel boat so surely he'd handle working in our cold and drafty barn brewery.

Now the unfortunate bit - the more beer we made and sold the more requirement there was for office work to be done. Lewis covered this role more and more to the point where Butch, with Rob's keen guidance, progressed to doing the bulk of the brewing.

We're a small team of six now and as we look to embark on the next chapter of Swannay's story (more on this soon!), we need a lead brewer to help take us to the next level. This will be an important role that first and foremost works towards Rob's initial and still number one goal of making world class Orkney beers.

Role: Lead Brewer

Key responsibilities:

• Leading brewery operations
• Managing brewing team
• Recipe development
• Development and management of quality systems
• Implementing company-wide beer-related training

Skills & experience required:

• A minimum of two years' experience working in a similar role
